Secret Bay Resort Dominica has its official opening

The former Minister of Tourism and Chair of Invest Dominica, Yvor Nassief was master of ceremonies at the official opening of Secret Bay Eco Resort on Saturday the 11th of June.

The Prime Minister, who was in attendance, gave an enthusiastic endorsement to the venture. He commended the vision of the owners Gregor and Sandra Nassief and the irony was not lost in that it is a Dominican who has made this major investment in his country.

Gregor gave a moving speech about the journey of him and his wife, Sandra, which began in Venezuela and fifteen years after the first portion of land was purchased in Dominica brought them to this momentous day with the realisation of their dream.

Secret Bay is a luxurious Eco Resort nestled on a hilltop above two beautiful beaches and a river. The first phase comprises of one two bedroom villa and two one-bedroomed villa. Some of the walls comprise ground to ceiling toughened glass so that the occupants always have a spectacular view. The largest villa has a pool overlooking the ocean with an expansive sun deck the below. Only the best materials have ben used in this development.

There are a number of vantage points where wooden look- out decks have been built so the visitor can get a panoramic view of the bay. Cutting of trees have been kept to a minimum and one of the villas is actually designed around a tree.

Gregor and Sandra tried to use local workman and companies wherever possible. Although they brought in a highly trained carpenter from Trinidad the couple asked him to train local carpenters and technicians to ensure they would get the high finish they required. They now go away with that added skill.

We have no doubt that this development will give much-needed jobs to people in the North and may indeed serve as a model to attract further investment to Dominica. It also sends the signal that Dominica is a good place to invest.

It is possible there will be a another Banking crisis because the causes were not dealt with in the last crisis. More money was thrown at the banks and they continued along their merry way . A country such as Dominica where inflation is low and labour costs are low could provide a a safer place to invest hard earned funds.
